Front month lean hog futures closed the Thursday session with gains of $1.17 to $2.72, leading to new LOC highs. For April, the next front month continuation high is $93.02 from 5/20/2019. The March 9 CME Lean Hog Index was another 68 cents higher to $86.76. USDA’s National Average Afternoon Base Hog price was $86.05, down 40 cents.

USDA reported 32.4k MT of pork sold during the week ending 3/4. That was down from 59.6k MT LW, and was 8,000 MT below the 5-week average. China made up 33% of the total sales and is responsible for 28% of the 701k MT total commitments.

Pork cutout futures ended Thursday with gains of $1.02 to $2.50 and now all nearby’s are above $100 cwt. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was $99.69 on Thursday afternoon, up $2.02. USDA estimates FI hog slaughter at 1.961 million head for the week through Thursday. That is down 21,000 head wk/wk, but just 7,000 head below the same week last year.

Jun 21 Hogs closed at $99.125, up $1.725

Apr 21 Pork Cutout closed at $100.500, up $2.500,
